As the great Bruce Springsteen once sang in that raspy, soulful voice of his: we all need a human touch.
And isn’t that the honest truth?
It’s hard to believe it’s been six long years since the world unexpectedly hit the pause button and we were all, quite suddenly, denied the simple beauty of human touch. Six years! I still remember those early days of standing two metres apart in supermarket aisles, awkwardly waving at friends with our elbows like some kind of confused flightless bird.
For me, running Complete Health Clinic, that period was a massive eye-opener. It made me realise, with absolute clarity, just how deeply people need people.
Why human connection matters for your health
We don’t just prefer human connection — we depend on it. We need that shared energy. We need warm, grounded words when life gets a bit too heavy. We need to look someone in the eye, read the subtle shifts in their expression, and really see how they’re doing.
And, let’s be honest… we need hugs.
There is quite simply nothing better in this world than a genuine, shoulder-dropping, deep-breath-out kind of hug. It’s like a warm cup of tea for the soul, and no matter how advanced our phones or computers get, you just can’t download one.
Hello, world (the human version)
These days, it feels like everywhere you turn, the world is trying to automate us into submission. You call a business and a cheerful robotic voice tells you to press 1 for this, 2 for that, or leave a message after a beep that sounds like a microwave finishing its job. You try to book an appointment online and a chatbot named “Helper-Bot 3000” pops up asking if it can “optimise your experience.”
Sigh.
Here at Complete Health Clinic, we like to keep things a little more down to earth.
When you pick up the phone to call us, you won’t get a robot trapped in a digital loop. You’ll get a real, breathing human being — usually me, or the lovely Abi if I’m busy in clinic. We pick up because we actually want to talk to you. We want to hear the tone in your voice, get a true sense of what’s going on, and work out how we can genuinely help you feel better.
And when you walk through our door at The Lowry Hotel in Manchester to see me or Lucy, it’s exactly the same. We aren’t health robots executing an algorithm. We’re human beings who care deeply about what we do.
- If you come in carrying a heavy load and the tears start flowing? We reach for the tissues, pour a glass of water, and hold space for you.
- If you need a good, hearty belly laugh to shake off a rough week? Oh, we do that too (and usually quite loudly!).
- If you look like you just need a gentle, reassuring hug before we even get started? Consider it done.
There are certain things that artificial intelligence will never be able to replicate — and thank goodness for that!
What does human touch have to do with colon hydrotherapy and gut health?
I know what you might be thinking: “This all sounds lovely and cosy, but what on earth does human connection have to do with colon hydrotherapy and gut health?”
As it turns out: a whole lot.
Your gut microbiome is shaped by the people around you
Have you ever stopped to think about your microbiome? That magnificent, bustling internal ecosystem living inside your gut belongs entirely to you — no two microbiomes on the planet are exactly the same, which I think is pretty magical.
But here’s the secret: your microbiome isn’t only affected by what you eat or the probiotics you take. The trillions of microscopic friends living on your skin, in your mouth and throughout your digestive tract are also influenced by contact. Hugging your loved ones, playing with pets, holding hands and sharing life with those around you all help shape and enrich your bacterial diversity.
Around 70% of your immune system lives in your gut
Did you know that roughly 70% of your immune system is housed in your gut?
When we isolate ourselves and stop interacting with the world, our microbial diversity can stall. But when we come together, mix, mingle and share spaces with other living creatures, we give our immune systems the varied bacteria they crave to stay robust and resilient.
So when you combine gut support like colon hydrotherapy with real, nurturing physical contact, you aren’t just treating a symptom — you’re supporting your whole ecosystem, from the inside out and the outside in.
Bespoke massage in Manchester: tailored to what your body needs
Over the past year, we’ve been listening closely to what you’ve been telling us — both with your words and with those tight, knotty shoulders you bring into the clinic! You told us you needed something deeply restorative, something tailored entirely to you, without a rigid one-size-fits-all script.
So we acted on it. We are so proud to offer our Bespoke Massage treatments.
There is truly nothing better than a hands-on treatment where a practitioner actually looks and listens to what your body is trying to say. Your body carries your story, and every single body that comes through our door is carrying something different.
Your Bespoke Massage could be:
- A total nervous system reset — for those days (or months!) when you feel completely frazzled, overwhelmed, running on empty and utterly stressed out. Maybe you haven’t slept a full night in weeks, or maybe you’re navigating the hormonal rollercoaster of menopause (or, let’s be fair, maybe you’re a husband living with a wife going through menopause — we see you, too!).
- Targeted muscle un-knotting — for the hard workers who’ve been typing away for eight hours straight, tied to a desk and chained to a phone, until your neck feels like concrete, your shoulders are up around your ears, and your feet ache just from standing in one place.
Sometimes you don’t need a clinical diagnostic panel. Sometimes you just need a little bit of good old-fashioned TLC.
Lucy and I have spent years honing our skills in massage and complementary therapies. Because we have a whole array of techniques and modalities at our fingertips, we can blend them seamlessly during your session. One minute we might be gently calming an overactive nervous system, and the next we’re working out a stubborn ache in your lower back.
All you have to do is lie back, take a deep breath, and trust us. We’ve got you.
Back to basics: the best things in life are still free
Look, AI has its place. I’m not doubting that for a single minute! It’s great for organising schedules, sorting data and helping us write quick notes.
However…
- AI will never give you a warm, comforting hug when you’re feeling down.
- AI will never look you in the eye and speak quiet words of genuine encouragement when you’re doubting yourself.
- AI will never give you that soft, knowing smile that says, “I hear you, and it’s going to be okay.”
Sometimes the best thing we can do for our health, our gut and our sanity is to pause all the noise, get back to basics, and remember that the most healing things in life don’t cost a thing.
Stepping outside and feeling the sunshine on your face. Taking a slow, deep breath of fresh air. Feeling a sudden wave of gratitude for the simple things we so easily take for granted. Sharing a laugh with a friend. These aren’t just nice ideas — they are fundamental human needs.
Come and say hello (a real human is waiting!)
So… what are you waiting for?
If your shoulders are somewhere near your ears, your gut feels a bit out of sorts, or your spirit is just plain tired, let’s get you sorted.
You can do things the traditional, wonderfully human way: pick up the phone on 07777 186 859 and speak to me directly (or Abi if I’m with a client). Ask us all your questions, share what’s been bothering you, or just talk through which treatment might feel best for you right now.
Or, if you’re reading this late at night in your pyjamas and prefer digital convenience, you can book online, send us an email or get in touch here — whichever fits into your day.
No pressure, no fancy jargon, no robotic scripts. Just real care, expert hands and a warm welcome waiting for you at The Lowry.
We can’t wait to see you in the clinic!
With warmth, light and a great big hug,
The Complete Health Clinic Team
